Wisconsin State Legislators Call for Better Police Officer Training

Posted on

In light of the July 2011 death of Derek Williams in Milwaukee Police Department custody, Wisconsin state legislators plan to introduce legislation mandating new training for police officers.

The new legislation would require police officers to undergo training regarding “cultural differences, mental health and physical health conditions that can affect behavior and arrest and pursuit procedures.”

For more information regarding the death of Derek Williams, and the proposed new training, please see the excellent report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
