If you have been injured due to a defective product, you may be entitled to significant financial compensation.

Defective product litigation and injury lawsuits are needed when unreasonably dangerous products, improper safety mechanisms and any other defects cause personal injuries or wrongful death due to design defects. The manufacturers of these defective products and consumer goods may be liable.

  • There are generally three main kinds of defects:
  • Design defects – Defects which stem from the very design of a product.
  • Manufacturing defects – Defects which arise as the product is manufactured, possibly due to poor or faulty processes.
  • Marketing defects – These defects include poorly written usage instructions, lack of proper warnings, and other post-manufacture defects.

FDA Recalls St. Jude Medical Defibrillation Wires

People with heart rhythm problems often have defibrillators surgically implanted. A defibrillator is a device that delivers an electric shock to the heart muscle for the purpose of restoring regular heart rhythm. In November 2011, the United States Food & Drug Administration (“FDA”) issued a recall of St. Jude Medical Riatta and Riatta ST Silicone Endocardial Defibrillation Leads, which are the wires that connect the defibrillator to the cardiac tissue.

The FDA issued the recall because a defect in the wires may cause the defibrillator to deliver an unnecessary and painful shock to the heart, or cause the defibrillator not to deliver a needed shock to restore regular heart rhythm. This defect can cause serious health problems, including death. The defective wires would likely have been implanted between 2001 and 2010. It is estimated that approximately 76,000 people in the United States have had these defective wires implanted.
