In response to the death of Derek Williams while in Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) custody, which has been previously reported in our blog “Medical Examiner Changes Ruling,” hundreds of community leaders and concerned citizens gathered for a rally at the Milwaukee Brotherhood of Firefighters Hall on Thursday night, September 27, 2012.
Several speakers called for the resignation of MPD Chief Ed Flynn. In addition, the rally called for the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate a possible pattern of civil rights violations by MPD officers. The NAACP, several Milwaukee alderpersons, and Wisconsin state legislators have already asked for the DOJ to investigate the MPD. Read more about the rally for Chief Flynn to resign.
Milwaukee Personal Injury Attorneys for Civil Rights Representation in Wisconsin
The civil rights lawyers of Samster, Konkel & Safran represent the long-term girlfriend of Derek Williams, on behalf of their three young children. Our Wisconsin personal injury attorneys applaud the Milwaukee community for its concern and its demand for justice following the death Mr. Williams. We hope that the DOJ investigates the MPD, so that future civil rights violations can be prevented.
