Teen Canoeist Rescued from Milwaukee River

Posted on

On Wednesday April 16, 2014, a 17-year-old boy from Cedarburg went canoeing alone on the Milwaukee River and was then reported missing by his family. The next day, rescuers found the teen in Ozaukee County, about a mile-and-a-half from where he started canoeing. Airplane searchers from the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (“DNR”) first spotted the teen’s canoe, and then a DNR official found the boy in the woods sleeping in a tent. The boy was taken to the hospital, but was apparently in good condition.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending. Authorities from the DNR, however, are warning everyone not to go canoeing in any southeastern Wisconsin rivers at this time. Because of the snow and rain we have sustained this winter and early spring, rivers are running very high and very fast. The Wisconsin boating accident attorneys of Samster, Konkel & Safran encourage everyone to follow the DNR’s advice and not go canoeing until it is safe.
