On Tuesday night, August 4, 2015, a car crashed into an apartment building, starting a huge fire that destroyed the building and left up to 20 people without a place to live. The incident occurred when the vehicle hit the corner of an apartment building at 6809 North 60th Street, punching a significant hole in the building. The vehicle then burst into flames, starting a huge fire which did significant damage to the building. The building inspector condemned the apartment building and the American Red Cross is assisting residents of the building find shelter. Following the crash, two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle received traffic citations. The police are also investigating witness reports that the incident may have been the result of street racing.
